Empowering communities through education, engagement, and meaningful conversations about non-small cell lung cancer

Amplifying Voices for Change and Support

This moment captures our continued presence in the community at the Ruskin Senior Center during a Breast Cancer Awareness Month event. Community members came together for a fashion show featuring donated wigs, which were later given to Moffitt to support individuals undergoing cancer treatment. Being part of moments like this allows us to connect, listen, and support health awareness efforts in spaces that feel familiar, joyful, and rooted in care.

Connecting Lung Screening, Education, and Community Care

Through collaboration with Moffitt's Mobile Lung Screening Unit, we work alongside community partners to promote lung health and early detection in trusted, familiar spaces. Whether at a local church health fair or a sporting event, these efforts focus on education, connection, and access-creating opportunities for individuals to learn, ask questions, and understand the importance of screening and next steps in care.

Continuing the Work Through Community Partnership

These moments reflect the heart of JUSTICE's outreach efforts, being present, building relationships, and supporting health education alongside community partners. By showing up at a variety of local events and spaces, we are able to listen, learn, and engage in meaningful conversations that promote lung health awareness, early detection, and access to trusted resources. Each interaction strengthens our commitment to serving the community with care, consistency, and respect.

The Importance of Community Engagement

Community plays a vital role in advancing meaningful and equitable research. By building strong, trusted relationships, we work to ensure understudied individuals affected by non-small cell lung cancer feel supported, heard, and empowered. Our engagement efforts focus on education, trust-building, and open conversation, helping raise awareness and foster understanding of the JUSTICE Program while supporting better health outcomes.

Engaging Local Leaders and Organizations

Through pop-up education sessions at United Way and the Lee Davis Community Center, we are connecting with the community through conversations about lung health. These sessions center on early detection, prevention, and awareness, while creating space for honest dialogue and learning. By showing up consistently in community spaces, we work to build trust, listen, and share information in a way that feels approachable, respectful, and empowering.
